The skin is our largest organ, acting as a barrier that protects the body. An ecosystem in and of itself, it interacts not only with our internal environment but also with the outside environment. That means if either environment is disrupted or changes, we can experience skin irritation, disorders, or infections.
Cue hemp; your internal and external helper. All the benefits we currently know it offers your body, like regulating your Endocannabinoid System (ECS) and reducing inflammation, positively affect more than just your internal function. These benefits can also impact your skin.
Most hemp skincare is derived from hemp seed oil. Hemp seed oil is pressed directly from the hemp seeds, and while that offers some benefits, it’s not the same as using a full-spectrum product. At Carolina Hemp Company, we use full-spectrum CBD that’s derived from the whole hemp flower in our skincare products. This process preserves the cannabinoids, terpenes, and other phytonutrients in the hemp plant, offering your skin even more support. If that’s not reason enough to enhance your skincare routine, consider these other advantages to full-spectrum hemp skincare:
1. Hemp has Anti-Acne and Anti-Aging Benefits
Hemp’s anti-inflammatory properties already make it a helpful treatment for acne, an inflammatory condition. But it also has other elements that can help to reduce acne. By acting on your ECS, it can regulate your skin’s oil production and help balance the amount of sebum your skin produces, reducing excess oil on your skin.[1]
Not to mention, it contains an omega-6 fatty acid called gamma-linolenic acid that reduces inflammation and stimulates cell growth, working as both an anti-inflammatory and anti-aging compound.[2] Other acids found in hemp, like oleic acid, work to reduce acne, fine lines, and wrinkles by creating a barrier on your skin that locks in moisture and locks out harmful bacteria and free radicals.[3]
2. Our Hemp Skincare Is Vegan
Vegan may not apply to every hemp skincare product you come across, but it will [always apply to ours]. We never test our products on animals, and like our other full-spectrum hemp products, we maintain a focus on all-natural ingredients, extracting from plants like hemp, raspberry, avocado, mango, and others. Using natural ingredients is important to us because the skin can absorb up to 60 percent of the product applied to it.[4] From there, it goes directly into the bloodstream, so it’s critical to use products with quality ingredients.

3. Our Hemp Skincare Avoids Harmful Ingredients
One of the staples in the skincare industry is a preservative ingredient called phenoxyethanol. Its safety is a bit controversial, with some studies showing humans can experience skin irritation, rashes, eczema, and hives when exposed to it. Highly regulated, it’s been deemed safe by the FDA only in concentrations of 1 percent or lower when applied topically.[5]
The issue with that guideline is that it doesn’t take into account that people can apply several topicals throughout the day, increasing their exposure to more than 1 percent. So, we opted to skip phenoxyethanol altogether, keeping it out of all of our skincare products.
