Local hemp & CBD retailer fighting back after Facebook suddenly shuts down their page | WLOS Asheville

Just days after the 2018 farm bill got the nod from the federal government, removing hemp from the list of federally controlled substances, Asheville's longest serving Hemp and CBD retailer/distributor is facing a new fight with Facebook.

In October, Facebook formally verified the Carolina Hemp Company Facebook, which gives users a sign of credibility and gives business a higher rank in search results. Just months later, on Dec. 26, Facebook shut down the page and accused the company of "promoting the sale of prescription pharmaceuticals" and "encouraging drug use."

This is not the first time a hemp company has been shut down by Facebook. Numerous hemp companies have had their pages suddenly halted.

Carolina Hemp Company appealed the action by Facebook, but Facebook replied, “Thanks for contacting us. We’ve reviewed your Page and confirmed that it still violates the Facebook Page Policies. As a result, your page remains unpublished.”

“We will not sit idly by as the government imposes censorship by leveraging private companies,” Carolina Hemp Company’s founder Brian Bullman said.

This is the second time CHC’s Facebook page has been shut down.

“We are considering organizing a caravan of hemp companies to march outside Facebook headquarters,” Bullman said.

The 2018 farm bill, signed by President Trump, made Industrial Hemp and CBD federally legal effective Dec. 20, 2018.

Carolina Hemp Company vows to continue fighting back, with hopes of bringing their knowledge and product information to those on social media with questions.

“Our goal is simply to educate people about their own Endocannabinoid System and how Whole-Spectrum hemp products can help bring their lives into balance,” Patton Cardwell, marketing director and co-owner of CHC, said.

Carolina Hemp Company says they provide access to safe, third-party lab tested, hemp extract (CBD) products and offer a wide variety of carefully curated hemp goods from clothing to food as well as, informed consultations from their trained staff. They never make medical claims or statements.

Carolina Hemp Company owners said they will continue to reach out to Facebook.
